You shall go to the prom!

Yes it’s that time again, when boys don tuxedos and girls pile their hair higher than a haystack and squeeze themselves into ballgowns – it’s time for the prom, ladies and gentlemen.

Now in my day (circa 1824), the closest we ever got to a prom was a pint of cider and black and a packet of pork scratchings in our local – hardly the high life (me, bitter?  Absolutely).  However, times they have a’changed and the Americans have shown us how to celebrate this special time in style.

Having seen dozens of prom photos from this year, however (and I know you’re going to hate me for this), it seems that the majority of the dresses you girls choose, although of course absolutely beautiful, are a little bit, well – “samey”?  We’re talking strapless, floor length, with ruching.  You can spot a stereotypical “prom dress” a mile off.

So have you thought about moving away a little from the traditional cocktail frock and looking for something more designer and elegant?  Something which will flatter your currently cellulite-free (just wait) figure and flow beautifully?

Then I’d suggest you take a look at Girl Meets Dress, a website dedicated to true fashion, stocking the big names which you can hire for the evening or weekend.  We’re talking Omar Mansoor, Chloe, Roberto Cavalli – everyone who’s anyone in the fashion world, frankly.

One of my favourites is this absolutely breathtaking gold silk gown by Dina Bar-El

Veterans of Hollywood red carpet events, Dina’s designs are sought after the world over.  This dress in particular is reminiscent of the 50s glamour portrayed by starlets such as Marilyn Monroe, is worth £558 and is available for around £100 for 2 nights.

Because this dress is so simple and elegant, and has a perfect low v neckline, it can take as much bling as you like.  My eye fell upon this fab set.

I’ve gone for a slightly more modern look with the accessories, to avoid the dress being a complete homage to the old Hollywood days.  Again, the overall look is quite simple, but it does in fact have quite an intricate design.  Gold links lead to a twisted drop of clear swarovski crystals and beautiful pearlescent stones. This jewellery set has both necklace and matching earrings and is available from Seasonsonline for £14.99.

So go ahead and enjoy the prom, safe in the knowledge that you’re the most stylish person there, clad in one of the top designer labels!
